The number of coronavirus cases increased by 19 deaths in the past 24 hours in Edo State, Nigeria, according to the state government’s report on Sunday night.
After this relatively low daily increase, the death toll in the states stood at 9 and the number of cases reached 191, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
Edo State is the most affected region in the South South in terms of deaths and in number of cases.
However, the northern part of Nigeria, according to WHO are the “new epicenter” of the coronavirus pandemic.
In the northern region, Kano is currently the most hit both in number of deaths and in cases, with 36 and 896 cases, followed by Abuja (505 and 14) and Katsina (308 and 14).
The pandemic has already killed 344,192 people worldwide and left 5,384,276 infected, with the United States as the most affected country with 97,686 deaths and 1,641,585 cases so far.
